The Pine Technical and Community College (PTCC) Clay Target Club trap team had another successful competitive season in the MCAC league.  The team took 1st place in the Blue Division of MCAC with 1079.50 points. The Blue division consists of  Minnesota West Community & Technical College, Hibbing Community College, Lake Region State College, Itasca Community College, Northland Community & Technical College and PTCC.

Nick Wegner, PTCC Gunsmithing and Firearms Technology student, took 1st place in the division with a 24.3 season average and 2nd place in the overall league. We also had 3 more athletes in the top 25 overall for the season: Zane Focher (PTCC Gunsmithing student), Brayden Abney (PTCC Gunsmithing student), and Justen Hansen (PTCC Precision Machining Student).

The team attended the MCAC league championship in Grand Rapids on October 15th with 12 schools fielding teams and 221 athletes. PTCC's trap team rose to the task and took 2nd place in the tournament, just 4 targets behind Alexandria Technical College and 1 ahead of Vermillion Community College. The team had 3 athletes in the top 5 with Nick Wegner (PTCC Gunsmithing Student) coming in a 5 way tie for 5th place. The highlight of the day, however, was the shoot-off for the overall championship. Cole Girtz from Alexandria Technical College, Braden Abney and Justen Hansen from PTCC went into the shoot-off with Cole Girtz missing first and being eliminated, leaving the final 2 PTCC athletes to compete for the top prize. After a few more rounds Braden missed a target, leaving Justen Hansen the 2019 MCAC Championship winner.

The team would like to thank the MCAC, USAClaytarget, Wings North, and PTCC for all the support this season. As an FYI, the clay target club meets weekly year round during activity hours and anyone can join, or just stop in to see what we are all about!
