The 80-hour state approved Nursing Assistant Certificate course provides the foundational knowledge and skills needed to work in hospitals, long term care facilities, assisted living facilities, and home care agencies. Students learn basic nursing skills including how to read and record vital signs, provide personal care, mobility assistance, and restorative care. Clinicals and Skills Refresher are included in the course.

This 8-hour skills refresher course will help participants fine tune skills needed to work as a nursing assistant and prepare them for successful completion of the MN State Competency Evaluation. Students spend the day with a nursing assistant instructor and state tester, practicing the 21 potential skills candidates may encounter during the state exam. Each skill will be demonstrated with time allowed to practice.

The Nursing Assistant Knowledge & Skills Exam is offered to qualified candidates seeking placement on the MN Department of Health Registry, as required for employment in most nursing homes. State and federal laws require that most candidates for testing have completed a MN state-approved Nursing Assistant training program of 75 hours or more. The exam includes a knowledge portion and a hands-on demonstration of nursing assistant skills and abilities. Pre-registration and payment are required. Candidates must be registered 48 hours prior to any exam. NO WALK INS ACCEPTED.
The skills portion will be done in person at Pine Technical & Community College in room 150. The knowledge portion of the exam is done virtually on your home computer. All Skills exams are 8am-5pm and run every 35 minutes. Students will be scheduled into a specific time slot during that 8am-5pm time frame. You must arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time. You will receive a final email from Pine Technical & Community College with your designated time for the Skills portion prior to testing day. Headmaster (Minnesota State's testing vendor) will send you a link to the knowledge portion of the exam 24 hours prior to to the exam. The Knowledge portion will be either 8am-9am or 130pm-230pm. You will be assigned a specific testing time.
