The 2-day seminar at PTCC or Sprung Services in New Brighton were designed with one purpose in mind - to help you pass your boiler operator exam. Whether you are taking a Minnesota Special Engineer or the Chief "A" licensing exam, this seminar will cover what you need. The state exam is given through the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry. You are guaranteed to pass! Although our instructors (employed by Sprung Services) have an extremely high pass rate (about 96%). you will be allowed to retake the class AT NO CHARGE if you get less than a passing grade on the state exam (you can take it again at the Pine Technical & Community College location or Sprung’ s New Brighton location, where classes are given more frequently). Sprung Services is the only boiler operations educator in the state offering this type of guarantee.
The instructors who developed this Prep Class & Teach include:
--Reed Sprung: (teaches occasionally) – Started as a nuclear reactor operator in the navy. CEO of Sprung Services, which is involves in the operations (including consulting) of many hundreds of boiler rooms in Minnesota and throughout the US. Re-wrote much of the state boiler exam bank in 2008. Wrote the exam prep course. Reed has a Chief A license and 35 years of experience.
--Gordy Nordby: Gordy has been teaching boiler operations and maintenance for approximately 20 years. Gordy has over 34 years of experience in the field and currently holds a Minnesota Chief "A" License. Gordy is ASE Certified as a Master Mechanic and Machinist.
-- Bob Hill: Bob is a Minnesota Chief “A" with over 35 years' experience. Bob began his career as a Navy Nuclear Reactor Operator.
The State will test you on (and the exam prep class covers) the following subjects:
Thermodynamics, Boiler & System Types, Safety Devices, Instrumentation & Controls, Steam Systems, Feedwater Systems. Combustion Theory & Systems, Water Treatment Chemistry, Plant Operations, Plant Maintenance. Code Issues (MN,ASME,NBIC) and Numbers & Calculations.
This class will help you pass your boiler exam. Some study materials will be provided free of charge, but you should plan to take notes during class.. Other study materials can be purchased via the website.
Unfortunately, two days is not enough time to prepare you for your exam while teaching all the fundamentals of boiler operations at the same time so you should look at the class as an exam prep only. The exam preparation seminar will cover the information needed to pass your exam. However, if you would like additional study materials, we recommend the following books and/or workbooks:

Special Note: The state must receive your application 15-20 days prior to your testing date. Download an application from our website by clicking on "licensing" on our home page or following the link: http:// www.doli.state.mn.us/CCLD/Boiler.asp. The address to send the application is located in the upper left hand corner of the application. It is the student's responsibility to get this boiler license application in to the state. Please note you may also complete the DOLI online exam application form to speed up the application approval process. This website also provides information on the rules and regulations of the boiler industry in Minnesota.

This course is designed to give the participant knowledge of welding principles and safety considerations. The course will focus on: developing the basics of wire feed; tungsten inert gas (TIG); gas metal arc (MIG); and shielded metal arc (Stick) welding (SMAW). Brazing, oxyacetylene cutting, and applied blueprint reading will also be covered.
After satisfactory completion, participants will also be able to view a blueprint, interpret it, determine types of welds, and perform various fundamental welding functions. 120 Hours

New Course! Pistolsmithing – Performance Pistol
Course Length: 40 Hours
Course Dates & Times: 5/18/20 – 5/22/20 8am – 4pm
This course is designed for the competitive handgun shooter, or user looking to increase the performance, reliability, and accuracy of their handgun. In this course students will learn the theory of handgun performance upgrades,especially as they relate to safely increasing accuracy, functionality and reliability, and competition use. Students will learn, discuss, and perform practical work on multiple handgun platforms.
Firearm platforms covered include, but are not limited to; centerfire and rimfire models of 1911, Glock, Sig Sauer, Smith & Wesson, Springfield, CZ and Ruger.
Students will be able to:
Demonstrate safe handgun handling skills
Describe handgun operation as it relates to various manufactures & model platforms
Describe how modification and aftermarket parts & accessories effect handgun performance
Select safe modifications & implement them to improve handgun performance
Effectively communicate handgun performance upgrade options as they relate in a competition environment
Required Tools & Supplies:
Any parts or accessories for modification of Firearm. Main suppliers are Brownells, MidwayUSA or use Google Search. Most common accessories of the 1911 platform include: Barrel bushings, triggers, hammers, sears and grip safeties. For other pistols, the most common accessories include: aftermarket triggers & components, sights, magazine wells, barrels, grips and slides.

**Students will be modifying their firearms and must obtain any parts and/or accessories prior to class at their own cost. Students must provide ammunition. Students must not bring firearms or
ammunition into the building unless directed by PTCC staff. Students must have a background check & be eligible to be in possession of a handgun per federal, state & local laws.
