Pine Technical & Community College on Track for Highest Enrollment in College History

Pine Technical & Community College (PTCC) has exceeded its fall enrollment goal and is on track to achieve the highest annual enrollment in the college’s history, reflecting strong student demand, strategic investments in workforce education, and expanded opportunities for learners across east central Minnesota.

Fall 2026 enrollment surpassed the college’s target by more than 3%, increasing nearly 6% over Fall 2025 and nearly 8% over Fall 2024. The strong fall performance places PTCC in a favorable position to surpass its previous enrollment record established in FY24, with FY26 ranking as the college’s second-highest enrollment year.

“The growth we’re seeing is the result of intentional investments in student success, workforce education, and community partnerships,” said Joe Mulford, President of Pine Technical & Community College. “Students are choosing PTCC because they see value in our programs, our hands-on learning environments, and the opportunities available after graduation. It’s exciting to see the college positioned for what could become the strongest enrollment year in our history.”

Growth Across Educational Pathways

Enrollment growth is being fueled by strong participation across multiple student populations, including traditional college students, Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) students, workforce education programs, and students earning college credit through PTCC’s Concurrent Enrollment program.

Concurrent Enrollment continues to be one of the college’s most impactful outreach initiatives. This fall, concurrent enrollment exceeded its target by nearly 28% and increased more than 22% compared to the previous year. Through partnerships with regional high schools, students can earn college credits while remaining in their local schools, helping reduce the cost of higher education and accelerating progress toward certificates and degrees.

“Our high school partnerships are creating opportunities for students and families throughout the region,” said Mulford. “Students are building confidence, saving time and money, and getting an early start on their educational and career goals.”

Largest Investment in Career and Technical Education in East Central Minnesota

The enrollment momentum comes as PTCC completes its technology and trades expansion, representing the largest investment in career and technical education in east central Minnesota.

The expansion provides students with access to modern training environments, industry-standard equipment, and increased capacity in high-demand technical programs. Designed in collaboration with regional employers, the facilities position PTCC to meet growing workforce needs while preparing students for careers in manufacturing, automation, welding, machining, and other skilled trades.

“As employers continue to face workforce shortages, PTCC is helping meet that need by preparing highly skilled graduates for in-demand careers,” Mulford said. “These expanded facilities allow us to serve more students while providing the hands-on learning experiences employers expect.”

New Opportunities Through NASA-Sponsored Workforce Initiative

PTCC is also helping students connect to emerging industries through its participation in the Minnesota Aerospace Skilled Technical Workforce (MnASTW) Hub, a NASA-sponsored initiative led by the Minnesota State Transportation Center of Excellence.

Selected as one of only three core college partners in Minnesota, PTCC will help prepare students in Automated Systems, Machining, and Welding for careers supporting the state’s growing aerospace and defense industries. The initiative provides opportunities for industry-aligned training, work-based learning experiences, and career pathways connected to advanced manufacturing and aerospace technologies.

TRIO Student Support Services Continues to Grow

PTCC’s federally funded TRIO Student Support Services program is also contributing to student success across campus.

Launched in Spring 2026 following the college’s award of a federal grant expected to provide more than $1.3 million over five years, the program supports first-generation college students, low-income students, and students with disabilities through academic advising, tutoring, mentoring, transfer planning, financial literacy education, and career exploration services.

Participation has already grown to more than 85 students this fall semester. “TRIO is helping students navigate challenges, connect with resources, and stay on track toward graduation,” said Mulford. “The program is already making a meaningful impact, and we expect that impact to continue growing.”

Looking Ahead

With enrollment exceeding fall targets, expanded workforce training capacity, innovative state and federal partnerships, growing student support services, and continued community investment, PTCC is well-positioned to achieve what could become the highest enrollment year in the college’s history.

“The momentum we are experiencing reflects the dedication of our faculty, staff, students, school partners, employers, donors, and community supporters,” said Mulford. “Together, we are creating opportunities that transform lives and strengthen the future of east central Minnesota.”
