Academic Skills Center

The Academic Skills Center (ASC) is committed to providing a comfortable learning environment, which fosters respect for all and the expectation that all students can succeed. Our goal is to help students learn more effectively and independently. Contact the Academic Skills Center as soon as you feel like you're having difficulty with a class. Don't wait until the end of the semester.

The Academic Skills Center is a great place to study individually, with a study group or with a peer tutor. The ASC has a wide variety of textbooks and computers for student use as well as computers and group tables are available. Stop in and see what you've been missing. Peer tutoring is offered at no charge to all Pine students. Peer Tutors are students who have taken the courses, received high grades, and been recommended by instructors.

Student Responsibilities
To get the most out of your tutoring session students should come prepared. Peer tutors are not substitutes for your instructors, so they will not re-lecture your course material, they will assist you with learning the material in a different format. Tutors can help with brainstorming ideas, researching topics, thesis statements, outlines, topic sentences, and grammar for your research paper. Tutors will not do your work for you.
