PARENTING PLUS

Pine Technical & Community College, a leader in innovative education, has developed courses to assist parents in building constructive parenting styles. We are passionate about helping parents develop strategies to successfully meet the changing needs of their families.

All classes are held via Zoom. A link will be sent to all students prior to the start of each class.

Positive Parenting Solutions Series

The following can be taken as a 7-part series or as individual standalone courses.  



Tuesday 4/9/24, 5:30pm-6:30pm

In this course we will explore common struggles parents have with their children. We’ll discuss developmentally appropriate behavior and how to utilize that knowledge to your benefit. We’ll look at best practices and proven strategies from reliable, credible sources with a licensed Family Educator. We’ll work on problem solving skills for you to take with you. You will gain simple solutions you can implement right away!

Tuesday 4/16/24, 5:30pm – 6:30pm 

Your daily responses to your children will have a major impact on their social and emotional skills. In this course we will identify the importance of building strong, positive relationships with your children.

We will discuss the power of using positive comments and encouragement. We will provide you with at home activities and help you gain the skills to begin building better positive relationships with your children.

Tuesday 4/30/24, 5:30pm – 6:30pm 

In this course we’ll explore the power of play in parenting. We’ll learn ways to help children develop friendship skills which research has proven can have a tremendous impact on your child’s growth and development. We’ll demonstrate the link of encouragement and play to children’s behavior. By the end of the hour, we’ll work through a plan you can implement in your home to take advantage of the power of play.

Tuesday 5/7/24, 5:30pm – 6:30pm   

In this course we’ll examine why children do what they do. We’ll practice ways to determine the meaning of a child’s behavior. We’ll learn ways to understand how to make expectations clear and effective ways to develop and teach household rules.

Tuesday 5/14/24, 5:30pm – 6:30pm 

Did you know there are 75+ complex feeling words a child should know by the time they are 3-5 years old? In this course we’ll explore what complex feeling words are and why they are important. We’ll learn how this vocabulary has an impact on your child’s behavior and reactions. We’ll demonstrate the use of books to support emotional vocabulary and social emotional development. You’ll meet Tucker the Turtle and learn how to teach your child problem-solving skills that will help them now and throughout their lives.

Tuesday 5/21/24, 5:30pm – 6:30pm 

In this course we’ll explore the meaning of “reasonable expectations.” We’ll review specific strategies that can be used to promote positive behavior at home and in community settings. We’ll define “logical consequences” and show how to implement them in your home to help you overcome challenging behaviors.

Tuesday 5/28/24, 5:30pm – 6:30pm 

In this course we’ll learn to be detectives of our child’s behavior. This will help parents understand, communicate and become better teachers for their children. We’ll discuss the 3 essential parts needed to create a plan to implement and use at home.
