The PTCC Summer Academy is a four-day summer enrichment program for students entering grades 9-12 in fall 2024. The Academy will provide students with an in-depth and hands-on approach to explore future career options through project-based learning.

Academy Cost: The total cost of registration is $150. Registration includes an Academy t-shirt, light breakfast, and lunch each day. Scholarships are available for students eligible for free and reduced lunch program.
Scholarships Available
There are a limited number of scholarships available for each Academy. Scholarships reduce the total cost of the academy to $100. Please contact Kierstan Peck to inquire about scholarship availability. A separate registration link will be provided, if approved.

Join us at the 2024 Summer Academy for an immersive four-day journey into the depths of web hosting, website development, network security, and operating systems. Students will kick off the week by diving into securing domain space, mastering HTML scripting with Visual Studio Code, and crafting your own website from concept to reality. Delve into FTP and SFTP usage for website publishing, while dissecting traffic with Wireshark to understand HTTP vs HTTPS and port distinctions. Explore the realms of PowerShell and terminal commands across Windows and Linux, with hands-on scripting and software installation. Finally, students will collaborate to up routers, switches, and access points, while delving into the realm of wardriving and potential security vulnerabilities.
*SPECIAL NOTE: Students will have the option to participate in a celebratory canoe trip down the St. Croix River on the last day of the Academy!
Meeting days: Monday-Wednesday or Thursday (Canoe Trip)
This academy will expose you to the world of Nursing. In this academy, you will participate in hands-on simulations that will provide foundational knowledge for dealing with every day, and occasional, medical emergencies.

Explore the wonders of aluminum in our hands-on class designed for aspiring engineers and DIY enthusiasts alike! Delve into the fascinating world of aluminum, its sustainable properties, and the innovative sand-casting manufacturing process. Discover how aluminum, with its unique atomic structure, can be melted and reshaped endlessly without losing its essential qualities, making it infinitely recyclable. Students will take a field trip to a junk yard and scavenge discarded aluminum, transforming their findings into practical tools through melting and machining techniques.

Dream It – Design It – Build It – Use It! In this academy, you will work with others to design and build a camp grill or rocket stove! The academy will conclude with a 4-6 hour canoe trip on the St. Croix River where you will field test your custom-built equipment to cook and have a shore lunch.
*SPECIAL NOTE: An extended day on June 27 will be planned to accommodate the canoe trip down the St. Croix River.
