Expansion and Renovation

Expansion and Renovation

Project Overview

PTCC is embarking on a large expansion for the college thanks to $21.4 million in legislative bonding money. The expansion will include a 25,000 sq. ft. addition and a 15,025 sq. ft. renovation of existing space on campus.

The project has an expected two-year timeline and will first include an expansion for trades such as automated systems, automotive, welding and gunsmithing, along with a new nursing lab. Construction began in July, 2024. In the fall of 2025, a new gunsmithing technology lab/hallway will be constructed, along with new south and east entrances to the college. In the spring of 2026, an automated systems technology lab/hallway and a healthcare simulation suite will be added.

The addition will be added onto the 80,000 sq. ft. existing building. The new welding lab will be ten times larger than the current lab, and the new gunsmithing program (the only one in the state) will house 72 student stations and a test range. The manufacturing lab will resemble a layout similar to manufacturing companies. A new student commons will connect to the existing lodge and west to the nursing area, which will include hospital, clinic and homecare-like settings.

We are roughly 5 months in to our campus expansion and renovation project! In the photo update, you can see the progress of our future Automotive and Gunsmithing Technology Labs!

Aerial Progress Photos

We are roughly 3 months in to our campus expansion and renovation project! A new shed has been constructed on our southeast lawn, a lot of ground has been turned and footings are being poured for our new Automotive lab.

The new automotive storage shed is up! Once concrete is poured, lights and outlets will be installed, and then all equipment will be transferred from the current storage shed for demolition. Next week, footings will start for the new addition and a sidewalk will be installed along 4th street.

Sub-contractor Subsurface has been busy drilling holes and highly compressing material to support the foundation and concrete slabs for our new lab areas. Local sub-contractor JCF has finished soil corrections for the new auto storage building and are starting to work on the new auto storage area alongside of our maintenance shed. This area will be enclosed with a 6-8 foot high fence and is used to store vehicles for the Automotive program. Sub-contractor Structural Buildings has installed sono-tubes and has poured concrete in them for the concrete pier footings to support the new storage building. The concrete slab for the shed will start to be poured the first week in September.

Soil correction and digging started on July 30. Quite a bit of soil has been removed to ensure the support of the new building. While digging, a 20 foot tree trunk, boulders, and a car hood were found. Pier footings will be poured next week and construction on the new shed will begin in August.
