POSTSECONDARY ENROLLMENT OPTIONS

PTCC offers exciting opportunities for high school students to start earning college credit while still in high school. Through the Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) program, eligible Minnesota students in grades 10-12 can earn both high school and college credit while exploring career interests and preparing for their future. Students attending public, private, charter, and homeschool programs may qualify.

Why Choose PSEO at PTCC?

PSEO gives students the opportunity to challenge themselves academically, explore career pathways, and get a head start on college—all while saving money.

At PTCC, PSEO students can:

  • Take courses on campus or online, either full-time or part-time.
  • Choose from a variety of career and technical education and general education courses.
  • Earn credits that satisfy both high school graduation requirements and college degree requirements.
  • Save money, as tuition, required fees, textbooks, and required course materials are covered through the PSEO program.
  • Gain experience in a college environment while receiving support from PTCC faculty and staff.
  • Transfer earned college credits to many colleges and universities after high school graduation.

Whether your goal is to earn a few college credits, complete a certificate, or get a jump start on your college degree, PTCC’s PSEO program can help you reach your goals.

To participate in PTCC’s Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) program, students must meet Minnesota eligibility requirements based on their grade level. Students who do not meet the criteria below are encouraged to contact PTCC to discuss available options.

Seniors (12th Grade)

Students must meet one of the following:

  • Rank in the upper one-half of their class, or
  • Score at or above the 50th percentile on a nationally standardized, norm-referenced test, or
  • Have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.5 or higher.

Juniors (11th Grade)

General Education Courses

Students must meet one of the following:

  • Rank in the upper one-third of their class, or
  • Score at or above the 70th percentile on a nationally standardized, norm-referenced test, or
  • Have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) Courses

Students must meet one of the following:

  • Rank in the upper one-third of their class, or
  • Score at or above the 70th percentile on a nationally standardized, norm-referenced test, or
  • Have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.5 or higher.

  • Receive a favorable recommendation from a designated high school official.

Students participating in PSEO for the first time as 10th graders are limited to one career and technical education (CTE) course during their first semester. After successfully completing that course with a grade of C- or higher, additional coursework may be available.

Freshmen (9th Grade)

Limited opportunities may be available for ninth-grade students. Interested students and families should contact PTCC for more information.

Questions About Eligibility?

If you are unsure whether you qualify for PSEO, contact the PTCC Admissions Office. Our team is happy to help you explore your options and determine your next steps.

Ready to become a PTCC PSEO student? Follow the steps below to complete the admission process.

Step 1: Apply to PTCC

Complete the online PSEO application for Pine Technical & Community College.

Step 2: Submit Your High School Transcript

Provide a copy of your current high school transcript (or homeschool transcript) so we can verify eligibility and review course placement options. Transcripts can be uploaded here or emailed to pseo@pine.edu.

Step 3: Submit the Notice of Student Registration (NOSR) Form

The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) Notice of Student Registration (NOSR) form is required each semester for all PSEO students.

  • Section 1 must be completed and signed by the student. If the student is under age 18, a parent or guardian must also sign.
  • Section 2 must be completed and signed by a high school counselor or designated school official.

Completed forms may be submitted to pseo@pine.edu or delivered to the PTCC Admissions Office.

Step 4: Complete Course Placement Requirements

PSEO students must meet the same course placement requirements as all PTCC students. Placement may be determined using:

  • High school coursework and GPA
  • ACT, SAT, or MCA scores
  • Previous college coursework
  • ACCUPLACER assessment results, if needed

ACT, SAT, or MCA scores may be uploaded here or emailed to pseo@pine.edu. In many cases, these scores are included on your high school transcript, so a separate copy may not be required.

Step 5: Watch for Your Admission Decision

Once all required documents have been received and reviewed, you will receive your admission decision by email.

After being admitted to PTCC, new PSEO students will work with PTCC staff to register for their first semester of classes. Registration assistance is provided to help students select courses that align with their academic goals, high school graduation requirements, and future career plans.

Students are encouraged to review the class schedule prior to their registration appointment and come prepared with questions about courses and program options.

Returning PSEO students will register each semester with the assistance of their assigned advisor.

Sign Up for a New Student Registration Session

New PSEO students are required to attend  New Student Orientation to help them feel prepared, connected, and ready for their first day of classes. Orientation provides an opportunity to meet faculty, staff, and fellow students while learning about the resources and tools available to support your success at PTCC.

During orientation, students will:

  • Learn how to access important technology, including eServices, D2L, and student email.
  • Understand college expectations and strategies for academic success.
  • Explore campus resources and support services.
  • Meet faculty and learn more about their program of study.
  • Connect with current students and campus staff.
  • Learn about textbooks, supplies, and preparing for the first week of classes.

Some PSEO students may attend a general PSEO orientation, while others may participate in a program-specific orientation based on their area of study. Information about orientation dates and registration will be provided after admission and registration for classes.

Orientation is the best way to feel prepared, supported, and connected as you begin your college journey at PTCC.

Some PTCC programs have enrollment limits, cohort capacities, or additional requirements that may restrict PSEO participation.

Construction Technology
Due to cohort capacity, Construction Technology has limited availability for PSEO students during the 2026-2027 academic year. Students who are able to participate full-time may participate. Students who are unable to attend full-time are encouraged to contact the Director of Dual Enrollment to discuss alternative options for exploring careers in the construction industry.

Gunsmithing & Firearms Technology (GSTP)
Due to program requirements, students must be at least 18 years old to fully participate in the Gunsmithing & Firearms Technology program. As a result, many PSEO students are unable to enroll in core GSTP courses while in high school.

Students interested in pursuing GSTP after high school are encouraged to work with the Director of Dual Enrollment to develop an academic pathway that allows them to begin completing general education and other non-GSTP coursework as a PSEO student. This can help students get a head start on the program and reduce the number of courses needed after high school graduation.

Program availability and participation requirements are subject to change. Students interested in programs with special requirements are encouraged to contact the Director of Dual Enrollment to discuss available options and create an individualized plan.

Minnesota law limits first-semester 10th grade PSEO students to one approved CTE course. After successfully completing that course with a grade of C- or higher, additional coursework may be available.

Please note that the list of eligible 10th grade CTE courses is subject to change and may vary from year to year. Students are encouraged to work with the Director of Dual Enrollment to determine the best course option based on their academic interests, career goals, and current course availability.
