TRIO STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES

What is TRIO SSS?
TRIO Student Support Services is one of the federal TRIO programs created to improve college retention and graduation for students who may face barriers to success. At PTCC, TRIO SSS is designed to be a welcoming “one-stop” support space where you can get help early and often.

Our focus:

  • Removing barriers before they become crises
  • Building confidence and college-ready skills
  • Supporting progress toward graduation and/or transfer
  • Helping students feel connected, capable, and supported

To qualify for TRIO SSS, you must meet the following federal eligibility criteria:

  • Be enrolled in a PTCC program.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or have permanent resident status

And at least one of the following:

Low-Income

You may qualify if your household income meets federal TRIO income guidelines.

First-Generation College Student

You are considered first-generation if your parent(s) or guardian(s) did not complete a bachelor’s degree.
If you were primarily raised by one parent,  and that parent did not complete a bachelor’s degree, then you may qualify.

Individual with a Disability

You may qualify if you have a documented disability verified through PTCC’s Accessibility & Accommodations process.
Documentation is confidential and shared only with appropriate staff.

Not sure if you qualify? Apply anyway and we’ll help you figure it out!

Note: TRIO SSS staff do not provide individual tutoring or education aid services like those offered in K-12 systems with an IEP. Accommodations are accessed and monitored through the Accessibility Office.

TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) provides limited grant aid to support active TRIO participants who are experiencing financial barriers that may impact their ability to remain enrolled or successfully complete the semester.

Grant aid is intended to assist with barriers that affect your academic persistence. Because funding is federally allocated and limited, not all requests can be approved. These awards do not affect any other grant or Financial Aid amounts.

Awards are reviewed based on:

  • Demonstrated financial need

  • Impact on enrollment and academic success

  • Academic standing

  • Prior receipt of TRIO grant aid

  • Available funding at the time of review

Completion of this form does not guarantee funding.

The qualifications to receive Grant Aid are:

  • Students must be a Pell Grant recipient
  • Students must be active in the TRIO SSS program
  •  Students must be in good academic standing as defined by the Satisfactory Academic Progress policy (2.0 cumulative GPA and 66.67% overall completion rate)
