Add, Drop & Withdraw

ADD, DROP & WITHDRAW

There are important deadlines to add, drop, and withdraw from a class each semester. View the course schedule to see add/drop/withdraw dates for a specific class.

Add a Course

You can add courses to your schedule through eServices.

  • For semester-based courses, you can add through the fifth business day of the term.
  • For accelerated courses, you can add within two business days of the start of the course.

Refer to the course description in the current course schedule to find the add deadline for your course.

Drop vs. Withdraw

Dropping a course versus withdrawing from a course are two different things.

  • Dropping a course means removing yourself from a course before or during the DROP/ADD period.
  • Withdrawing from a course means removing yourself from a course after the DROP/ADD period and before the withdraw deadline.

If you stop attending a course, it’s important that you go through the process to drop or withdraw from that course otherwise you will remain financially responsible. If you are receiving financial aid and make changes to your credit load, you should contact the Financial Aid Office to determine if the change will affect your aid status.

The process to drop/withdraw from a course is available in eServices. Login with your StarID and password, and under “Courses & Registration” choose “View/Modify Schedule”.

Drop a Course

Dropping a course means removing yourself from a course before or during the DROP/ADD period. 

You are responsible for dropping your courses. Not attending or not participating does not constitute dropping from a course. Instructors will not drop you from your course. If you do not attend your courses(s) and do not drop them, you will receive an FN (failure due to non-attendance) grade and remain financially obligated for the course(s) tuition and fees. 



For courses that begin the first week of the semester, the deadline to drop is the fifth business day of that semester. For courses that begin after the first week of the semester, the deadline to drop is two business days after the course begins.

No. The dropped course will not appear on any transcript and will not affect either your grade point average (GPA) or credit completion rate.  

Possibly. Anytime you change your credit load it may affect the amount of aid you are able to receive. Contact the Financial Aid Office before dropping a course.  

Yes. You can only receive a full refund for a course if you properly drop the course during the drop/add period.  

Log into eServices. Find the course under “Courses and Registration” and select “View/Modify Schedule”. Click the X next to the course(s) you wish to drop.  

Withdraw from a Course

Withdrawing from a course means removing yourself from a course after the DROP/ADD period and before the withdraw deadline. 

You are responsible for withdrawing from your courses. Not attending or not participating does not constitute withdrawing from a course. Instructors will not withdraw you from your course. 

You are strongly encouraged to meet with your Student Success Advisor and financial aid before withdrawing from any course. 



The withdrawal deadline is approximately 80% of the way through a course. For an exact date, verify the deadline on the course schedule or in eServices. 

Yes. It will result in a “W” on your transcript and you will not receive credits for the course, so withdrawing negatively affects your credit completion rate. If your credit completion rate falls below 66.67%, you will be placed on warning. If it remains below 66.67% for a second term, you will be placed on suspension. A “W” does not affect your GPA. 

Possibly. Anytime you change your credit load it may affect the amount of aid you are able to receive. In addition, you may owe a portion of your financial aid back if you withdraw from all your courses or never attend. The Financial Aid office will calculate how much of your aid was “earned” and notify you within 30 days if you owe money back to the school.  

If you withdraw from all of your courses, you may be eligible for a partial refund. The business office will calculate your refund eligibility based on the date you withdraw. On Tuition & Fees, scroll down to see Refunds for Total Withdrawals”. 

Check with your instructor. Talk about your grade, the possibility of you passing the course and whether withdrawing may be the best course of action. You should also check with your program advisor or Student Success Advisor to see how withdrawing may affect your program plan as well as Financial Aid to see how your financial aid may be impacted.
