GRADUATION AND COMMENCEMENT

You deserve to be very proud of your accomplishments! Here’s how to graduate and take part in the commencement ceremony.

Steps to Finalize the Graduation Process at PTCC

Before applying to graduate, check your Degree Audit Report to make sure you’re eligible to graduate. Read full graduation eligibility guidelines outlined in PTCC Policy 219 Graduation Requirements and Policy 219 Graduation Requirements Appendix A.

  • A grade of “C” or better is required in designated program major courses
  • No more than 20% of credits through CPL may be counted towards meeting graduation requirements
  • Students must complete 1/3 of program requirements at the College
    • residency requirements for active-duty service member are set at 25% of the program
  • Students must attain a final cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. Specific programs may have additional requirements.

Deadline: The deadline to apply to graduate for the Fall 2024 term is November 27, 2024.  If you have completed the requirements for your degree, diploma or certificate prior to the current term, you can apply to graduate anytime but please be aware that you will be considered a graduate for the current term which may be not be the same term as when you finished the requirements for your program.

  • Applications will be accepted after November 27, but you may not have your name printed on campus communication
  • You will need to complete the application for graduation for each award you complete at Pine (certificate, diploma, and AS/AAS/AA)

APPLY FOR GRADUATION

If you took out a student loan to fund your education at PTCC, you must do a loan exit counseling session.

Graduates must have no outstanding business office holds at the College before a final award and/or transcripts will be released.

Allow 6-8 weeks for your diploma to arrive at the address you entered on your graduation application. If you have questions regarding your graduation application or diploma, please contact records@pine.edu.

Graduate Follow Up Survey 

You will be expected to complete a graduate follow-up survey within 12 months of completing your diploma, certificate or degree with PTCC. You will be emailed your specific survey link several months after you are awarded so please be on the lookout for that. This survey asks if you plan to continue onto more schooling or if you obtained a job after graduation. If you already have a job lined up or are accepted to continue school (even at PTCC in another program), please feel free to complete the survey ahead of time.

Commencement

Pine Technical and Community College commencement ceremonies are held once each year in May. Graduates who complete their final program in the Fall 2024, Spring 2025, or Summer 2026 term are invited to attend the May 16,2025 ceremony. Participation is voluntary. Commencement is one of the most important events in your journey as a student, and as staff and faculty, something we look forward to celebrating with you. Here are a few details about the upcoming Commencement Ceremony:

Friday, May 16, 2025

Pine City High School, 1400 Main Street South, Pine City, MN 55063

  • 4:30pm – Commencement for all non-health science programs
  • 6:30pm – Commencement and Pinning Ceremony for Associate Degree, Practical Nursing, and health science programs

  • Please join us May 16 at 1:00 pm at PCHS in the Auditorium for Commencement rehearsal
  • This is an opportunity for students, staff and faculty to prepare for the event and ask questions.
  • Because classes are in session at the high school, please park in the south gravel lot beyond the tennis courts.
  • Caps, gowns and honor cords can be picked up in the Campus Store beginning April 22
  • Campus Store hours: M-F, 8:30am – 4:00pm
  • Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5-3.74 at time of application for graduation will be awarded Honors and wear a silver cord at graduation
  • Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.75-3.99 at time of application for graduation will be awarded High Honors and wear a gold cord at graduation
  • Students with a cumulative GPA of 4.0 at the time of application for graduation will be awarded Summa Cum Laude
  • GPA calculations used for the commencement ceremony may not reflect a student’s final GPA
  • Honors will be noted on a student’s official transcript at the time of conferral

  • Each year before the ceremony, we play a slideshow highlighting photos submitted by our students. Please send photos you have captured during your education, of your family, your hobbies, or other things that are important to you.
  • Check your student email for the link to submit photos.
  • Participation in the commencement ceremony does not imply that a student has officially graduated.
  • Students attending the commencement ceremony will receive a diploma cover with a special message inside. The official diploma will be mailed approximately eight (8) weeks after graduation once all grades are posted and final checks performed.
