Whether you’re just getting started, planning for next semester, or preparing for life after high school, we’re here to help. Below are answers to some of the most common questions we receive about PTCC’s Early Middle College program. Participation is determined collaboratively between the student, the high school, and PTCC. Students are typically recommended by their high school and work with staff to determine whether Early Middle College is the right fit.

There is no cost to students for tuition, required fees, textbooks, and required course materials.

Some courses and programs may require supplies, tools, uniforms, or equipment that become the student’s property. These expenses are the responsibility of the student.

Yes. Required textbooks and course materials are covered through the program.

Yes. Many Early Middle College students complete certificates or make significant progress toward a diploma or degree before graduating from high school.

Early Middle College students work with both PTCC and high school staff to develop an individualized academic plan. Course selections are intentionally designed to support high school graduation requirements and progress toward a college credential.

Students are encouraged to explore career interests and select a pathway or major that aligns with their goals. PTCC and high school staff work together to ensure students take courses that support both high school and college success.

Yes. Students should work with PTCC and their high school to discuss changes and ensure they remain on track for graduation and credential completion.

Yes. Early Middle College students receive ongoing support from PTCC staff and their high school throughout the program. This collaborative approach helps students stay on track and successfully balance both high school and college expectations.

Most students may take up to 18 credits per semester.

Yes. Summer opportunities may be available for some students. Students interested in summer enrollment should work with their high school and the Director of Dual Enrollment to discuss available options.

Yes. Early Middle College students may enroll in developmental coursework when appropriate. These courses help students strengthen academic skills and build a strong foundation for future college success.

College coursework can be challenging, and PTCC is here to help. Students are encouraged to communicate with their instructors and seek assistance early. Tutoring, academic advising, accessibility services, and other student support resources are available to help students succeed.

Because Early Middle College courses are part of an individualized academic plan, students should consult with both their high school and PTCC before withdrawing from a course. Dropping a class may impact both high school graduation requirements and college progress.

Once a student begins taking college courses, federal privacy laws (FERPA) protect the student’s educational records. Parents and guardians do not automatically have access to grades, schedules, or other student information. Students who wish to share information with a parent or guardian may complete a release form.

Yes. Students remain active members of their high school and may continue participating in athletics, clubs, fine arts, and other extracurricular activities.

Many PTCC courses transfer to other colleges and universities. Students planning to attend another institution after high school should work with that college or university to determine how credits will apply to their degree program.

Absolutely! Many Early Middle College students continue their education at PTCC after graduating from high school.
