Frequently Asked Questions About the PSEO Program

Whether you’re just getting started, preparing for registration, or planning for life after high school, we’re here to help. Below are answers to some of the most common questions we receive about PTCC’s Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) program. There is no cost to students for tuition, required fees, textbooks, and required course materials through the PSEO program.

Some courses and programs may require supplies, tools, or equipment that students retain ownership of. Because these items become the student’s property, they are not covered by PSEO funding. Examples may include art kits, dissection kits, uniforms, and tools used in many technical programs.

Students with questions about course-related expenses are encouraged to contact the PTCC PSEO team prior to registration.

Yes. Students may take one course or enroll full-time. Course selections should align with high school graduation requirements and future educational goals.

Yes. PTCC offers both on-campus and online courses for PSEO students.

Most students may take up to 18 credits per semester.

No. Minnesota law does not allow school districts to set minimum or maximum participation requirements.

No. PSEO funding does not cover summer enrollment. Students interested in taking summer courses should contact PTCC to discuss self-pay options.

No. Some programs and courses have additional requirements or may not be available to PSEO students.

Required textbooks and course materials are covered through PSEO funding.

Students attending through partner high schools should check with their counselor before ordering textbooks, as some schools order materials on behalf of students.

Yes. The Minnesota Department of Education Notice of Student Registration (NOSR) form must be submitted each semester.

State funding generally only covers repeating a course if the original grade earned was an F.

Many PTCC courses transfer to other colleges and universities. Students planning to attend another institution after high school should work with that college or university to determine how credits will apply to their degree program.

No. Once a PSEO student is enrolled in a course, they cannot be displaced by another student.

PSEO students have access to many of the same services available to all PTCC students, including:

  • Academic advising
  • Tutoring services
  • Accessibility services
  • Library resources
  • Technology support
  • Student activities and campus events

Yes. Many PTCC PSEO students complete certificates or make significant progress toward a diploma or degree while still in high school. Students interested in earning a credential should work closely with the PTCC PSEO team to develop an academic plan.

Yes. Eligible homeschool students may participate in PTCC’s PSEO program. Homeschool students must meet the same eligibility requirements and submit the same application materials as other PSEO students.

PSEO is a Minnesota program and is generally limited to Minnesota residents. Students attending schools near the Minnesota-Wisconsin border who have questions about participation should contact the PTCC PSEO team to discuss available options.

College coursework can be challenging, and PTCC is here to help. Students are encouraged to communicate with their instructors and reach out for assistance as soon as concerns arise. Resources such as tutoring, academic advising, accessibility services, and other student support services are available to help students succeed.

Once a student begins taking college courses, federal privacy laws (FERPA) protect the student’s educational records. Parents and guardians do not automatically have access to grades, schedules, or other student information. Students who wish to share information with a parent or guardian may complete a release of information form.

Yes. Most PSEO students continue to participate in athletics, fine arts, clubs, and other activities offered through their high school while taking PTCC courses.

Yes. Many students participate in multiple college credit opportunities, such as Concurrent Enrollment, Pine Academies, or College Provided Faculty courses in addition to PSEO. Students should work with their high school counselor and PTCC staff to ensure their schedule aligns with graduation requirements and academic goals.

A failing grade becomes part of your permanent college transcript and may impact future financial aid eligibility and academic standing. Students who are experiencing academic difficulty are encouraged to seek assistance early and communicate with PTCC staff and their high school counselor.

No. Developmental or remedial courses are not eligible for PSEO funding.
